JESSICA & MATT / WEST SAYVILLE COUNTRY CLUB / NEW YORK
Check out their engagement session – early 2013
How They Met – “Matthew and I met during their freshman year at Loyola College in Maryland. Both Matthew and Jessica lived on the second floor of Hopkins Court along with many of their close friends from college. Matthew and Jessica were good friends until the beginning of their senior year of college when Jessica realized that she had feelings for Matthew. A few months later (with the encouragement of our friend Katy), Matthew realized that he too cared forJessica as more than a friend. A few days later, Matthew asked Jessica to be his girlfriend. After graduation,Jessica stayed in Baltimore to accept a teaching position and Matthew began his graduate career at Northwestern University. A year later, Jessica moved to Chicago to be closer to Matthew where they have been living together for four years.“
1. What was your favorite part of your wedding
“My favorite part of the wedding was the ceremony…. but I feel like that is a really obvious answer. My SECOND favorite part of the wedding was during the reception. We had a “kissing menu” on the back of our food menu where guests could complete dares to make us kiss. One of the dares was a serenade—your entire table had to sing Matthew and I a song and then we would kiss. A large group of my friends requested “kiss the girl” from the little mermaid and danced around us in a circle recreating the scene from the movie. There are GREAT photos of this moment. Later in the night, my uncles and aunts sang us love shack, and it was hysterical.”

Cake: Black forest Bakery (recommended by WSCC)
Candy: “Our candy bar was put together by my AMAZING mother-in-law Maryellen. Matthew’s father put works for the Mars company so all of candy was clearly M&Ms and other delectable goodies from the Mars Candy Company were our candy of choice.”
My AMAZING necklace and my Maid of Honor’s earrings: An etsy shop called Treasure570. One of my wedding guests actually came up to me during the wedding and told me that she wants that necklace to be her “something borrowed” when she gets married. https://www.etsy.com/shop/
Monogrammed shirts for the bride and bridesmaids that we wore getting ready by an etsy shop called Monogram Madness. I had to order them really early but her prices were the most reasonable I was able to find on etsy.https://www.etsy.com/shop/
Flowers: Bayport Flower House— “Joan was AMAZING. They were a recommended vendor of WSCC as well. I met with two other florists before deciding to go with them and she was definitely the best. She had the best prices and a really creative eye. We had relatively untraditional centerpieces (mums and random fall flowers in jars sitting on top of wood rounds). I brought her 8 boxes of jars, picture frames for the table numbers, shepherds hooks for the aisles, and crazy ideas and she created something more beautiful than I could have even imagined!”
Matthew’s Pocket Watch: A shop called Watch Designs on Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/shop/
Wedding Dress Hanger: A shop on etsy called Creations by Tilly. Again, there was a pretty long wait for the hanger but I ordered it early and it was VERY reasonably priced compared to other etsy shops. https://www.etsy.com/shop/
Bridesmaid gifts: Necklaces ordered on Tyra handmade jewelry https://www.etsy.com/shop/
Bridesmaid and Bride tanks tops: An etsy shop called Prim and Proper. https://www.etsy.com/shop/
DJ: “A friend of my brother’s named Patrick McHale is a DJ on the side. He was AMAZING. I did not want an MC or someone shouting in a microphone telling me to “put my hands in the air” and hand out glow sticks, I was just looking for someone to play great tunes and keep everyone dancing the whole night. He did an amazing job. Almost no one left the wedding early, everyone stayed to the very end of the wedding and danced the night away.”
“Flip flops for wedding guests: $1.00 flip flop sale at Old Navy. It was really important for me that everyone was comfortable and could dance the night away. Matthew and I stopped at 4 different Old Navy stores on our 16 hour drive from Chicago to New York in June to buy flip flops for our guests.”
3.Your dress and tux/suit designers
Dress and Veil: Macys (It was the first dress I tried on and was 25% off! The veil was 30% off!)
Suits: Men’s Warehouse (I like the idea of suits better than tuxedos because we were going for a slightly more casual affair and I love the way men look in suits! We asked the guys if they wouldn’t mind buying suits rather than renting tuxes and they were TOTALLY in! They were sending messages back and forth to one another how they were going to look better than the girls.)
“Originally, I wanted to a COMPLETELY DIY wedding. I quickly realized with work and everything, it just wasn’t going to happen. I decided to hire professionals for things like flowers, cake, and instead focus my DIY and craftiness on the little touches. I am SO GLAD that I did. My wedding was able to have a lot of personal touches without being overwhelming. I handmade the pinwheels, streamers, designed and created our save the dates, invitations, menus, and programs”
