Rebeca and Martin were my wedding photography winners from a contest I had in 2008. The were married on a lovely October day in Boston. Can I just tell you how much I loved this wedding? Rebeca’s dressĀ and Martin’s coat was handmade by her friend who created it for her from a 1950’s pattern. The dress designer work can be seen here http://www.storiedthreads.com
This dress is definitely my favorite of the 2009 season. I would wear it in a heartbeat.
Rebeca also made herĀ hairpiece herself!
The wedding had a ol’ English teatime theme, everyone had to wear stylish hats, there were finger foods and tons of tea in this beautiful historic building with cascading staircases, baroque style wall paper.. droool..
Here is their entry :
Here are some snippets from their contest entry: “Our wedding will be a lot like us: from all over, bizarrely cohesive, and decidedly off-beat. We’re having an afternoon tea party, complete with little sandwiches and scones, and are highly encouraging gloves and fancy hats. I will be wearing a 50s-inspired cocktail dress, and he will be wearing a leather kilt. There will be no dancing– since we’re having guests from four continents, we’d like to be able to talk to them instead of shouting at them. ….We want it to feel like an afternoon at a favorite aunt’s– somewhere comforting, warm, friendly and loving, full of the best-loved people in our lives. The college club is perfect for this vibe, as it’s in one of Boston’s oldest neighborhoods, and exudes that kind of settled-in, comfortable charm in all its built-in cabinetry and plaster work. We want it to be fun and relaxed, not stuffy and pretentious. But with kilts. everything is better with kilts”
On why they wanted me to photograph their wedding:
“We’d love to have you shoot our wedding because of your eye for detail, but for your ability to capture feeling and moments– an uncertain smile, a tender touch of the fingers– without seeming like you’re violating the space. That takes ease and careful timing, and it shows in the finished work.”
Here are the photos:

Laura, these are great! I have a favor to ask — I made Beca’s dress and Martin’s coat, and would love to feature them on my own website. I’ve already gotten their permission, but obviously want your permission as photographer as well. Would it be okay with you if I used one or more of your pictures? Naturally, I will credit you appropriately.
